Dunham provided mechanical and electrical engineering services for a new corporate headquarters facility. The 180,000 SF building includes office space, atria, kitchen and servery, and computer rooms.
Great River Energy expressed a strong desire for innovation and energy efficiency in its new facility. One important strategy is the extensive use of daylighting to bring natural light deep into the building.
The building's site near Arbor Lake provided an opportunity for the project team to utilize geothermal heating and cooling. Displacement ventilation was also included in the building. Because the displacement cooling discharges at a higher temperature than an overhead mixing system, the building will receive free cooling from the lake for much of the year.
A 200 kW wind turbine and 72kW of photovoltaic arrays are installed on the site. The on-site renewable energy contributes up to 15% of the building's electrical energy.
